š Ozempic-style drugs are being tested on 6-year-olds...
Hey fam. Shannon here. The world has entered a new era of tech warfare as reports of hand-held radios exploding across Lebanon come in, just one day after pagers simultaneously detonating injured nearly 3,000 people. A second apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trumpās life is continuing the same theme of violence, which has, once again, brought the issue of gun reform to the forefront. Iāll be breaking down Trump and Harrisā position on the issue, so stay tuned.
Before that, letās get into some of the interesting reads I came across this week.
šš Whatās trending
Whatās in: Business astrology + trauma-dumping via candy salad + āmindfulā weddings
Whatās out: Pants + smartphones + rodent men
š Headlines I found interesting:
Ozempic-style drugs are being tested on 6-year-old kids
The ācapital of TikTokā has been declared
Politician breaks chair on rivalās head in shock move during debate
TikTok girlies have found a way to catch cheating partners
Emma Chamberlain is the case study for what makes young people tick
š Tips on building Volv:
Iām all about stacking meetings on certain days and knocking them out back-to-back. It takes effort to get into āmeeting mode,ā so once Iām there, I prefer to stay in it for a while. But letās be real ā being in meetings all day isnāt ideal as a founder. You need a solid block of time to dive into projects that actually grow the company and get into that flow state. (Reminder to myself: donāt schedule back-to-back meetings the day I have to send out a newsletter š )
āØ Vibe of the week
Poolsuite is the ultimate vintage brand haven ā what started as an internet radio station capturing that ā70s summer nostalgia has expanded into premium sunscreen and even a DAO, all with Club Med-inspired ads.
Safe to say, Poolsuiteās retro aesthetic was a major inspo when we were designing Volv.
šļø Letās dig into Trumpās and Harrisā position on gun reform
Hereās Trumpās take:
Claims heās āthe best friend gun owners ever hadā in the WH.
After the second apparent assassination attempt, he blamed it on Biden and Harrisās rhetoric and doubled down on defending the Second Amendment.
Endorsed by the NRA, the USās largest pro-Second Amendment group, in 2016, 2020, and 2024.
As president, he consistently tried to loosen gun laws as president, including rolling back Obama-era regulations and allowing individuals with mental illnesses to purchase guns.
Banned bump stocks (devices that transform firearms into machine guns) after they were used in the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, the deadliest mass shooting in modern history. The SCOTUS overturned his executive action.
Opened the door for 500,000 people with arrest warrants to buy firearms.
Proposed deregulating assault weapons exports, raising national and global security concerns.
Called for red flag laws in 2019, but his latest position is against any reform to US gun laws.
Gun violence spiked 30% in his last year as president.
Wants more guns on the streetsāarming teachers and focusing on mental health as the solution.
Hereās Harrisā take:
Harris made waves during her debate with Trump, revealing sheās a gun owner herself.
Sheās been advocating for gun safety long before her VP days. As SFās DA, she tackled domestic violence cases involving guns, where the risk of death jumps by 500%
As Californiaās AG, she removed 12,000 illegal guns and made CA one of the first states to implement red flag laws.
As Senator, co-sponsored a bill to ban gun purchases by people convicted of violent hate crimes.
Pushed for regulating ghost guns, 3D-printed guns, and large-capacity magazines, plus closing loopholes for stalkers.
Supports an assault weapons ban but not mandatory gun confiscation.
As VP, she leads the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention and passed the 2022 Safe Communities Actāthe biggest gun safety law in 30 years.
Sheās helped states seize guns from dangerous individuals.
In 2024, her campaign focuses on assault weapons bans, background checks, and red flag laws to keep schools, communities, and public spaces safe.
